The Rectorate comprises the Office of the Rector as well as that of the Pro Rectors, the Communications and Alumni Relations Office and the Office of Human Resources. The Rector’s team deals with day-to-day running of the Office and coordinates all the Rector’s meetings and other activities. The Rector of the University of Malta is Prof. Juanito Camilleri.
The Pro-Rectors assist the Rector in the general day-to-day running of the University. They focus on specific aspects of University affairs. Dr Mary Anne Lauri is Pro-Rector for Student and Institutional Affairs; Professor Richard Muscat is Pro-Rector for Research and Innovation and Professor Alfred Vella is Pro-Rector for Academic Programmes. These are assisted by Rector’s delegates in various areas.
The Communications and Alumni Relations Office is run by the Director and a team of five who deal with the media, University publications, the University website as well as events on campus and other aspects of internal and external communication. The recently initiated Alumni Relations arm of the Office is gathering strength and the setting up of an Alumni Association is now imminent.
The Office of Human Resources leads the University's efforts to recruit, develop and maintain a workforce that meets the needs of a dynamic academic institution. It is concerned with all HR issues on a University wide basis. The HR team coordinates the many different activities which also include personnel management, performance management, training and development and industrial relations.
