The programme of studies consist of study-units in physical geography, human geography and environmental geography with most units having a fieldwork component included. The programmes also include the acquisition of research skills through study-units in research methods and a dissertation based on an original theme. Skills in cartography and cartometry together with extensive theoretical and practical lectures in Geographic Information Systems form an important component of the course. Aerial Photography Interpretation and Remote Sensing provide additional input to the spatial and technological components of the discipline.

An emphasis on the Mediterranean region is an integral part of all units with field exercises in rural, urban and coastal environments used to emphasize the local context as well as apply the technical skills learned during the course.

The programmes are enhanced by extra-curricular events that take place regularly throughout the academic year. These include attendance at conferences, workshops seminars and field excursions organized by the department and led both by local members of staff and by foreign lecturers. These events, in addition to the field and practical-based approaches to the subject, provide the appropriate spatial evaluation of the world we live in.
