- They will also have gained some insight into contemporary Hispanic societies and cultures in Spain and the Americas.

Subject-specific Skills:

- The primary skills developed in this course are those relating to communicating in a foreign language, specifically understanding spoken and written Spanish and speaking and writing it.
- Coherent articulation of ideas and arguments, orally and in writing.
- An ability to combine organized independent study with effective group work.

Key Skills:

- Ability to function in a Spanish-speaking environment;
- Writing skills.
- Research and time management skills.
- IT skills (word processing of assignments, use of an online learning environment, use of online sources of information).
- Understanding of cultural difference and of different ways of representing it.

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES AND ACCESS TO FURTHER STUDY This will also have the added benefit of preparing students, should they so desire, for an international qualification in the shape of the Instituto's DELE exams, over and above the University of Malta's own Certificate in Language Proficiency (Spanish).
