The Department of Sociology is currently involved in a collaborative project on SMEs and Micro-Enterprises in the Maltese context. It is fully funded by the Ministry of Finance through the Parliamentary Secretariat for Small Business and Land. The agreement was signed in June 2011 by the Rector on behalf of University, Prof. Mark-Anthony Falzon on behalf of the Department of Sociology, and the Hon. Dr. Jason Azzopardi and Alfred Camilleri on behalf of government.
The project, which will make use of both qualitative and quantitative methods, aims to establish the solid, peer-reviewed and long-term study of the field as an important requisite of policy making. A detailed report will be presented to scholars, government officials, and the general public sometime in late 2012.
The project will run until at least June 2013 and is headed by Dr. Gillian Martin.
