| DESCRIPTION | This study-unit offers an introduction to basic grammatical elements of Modern Standard Arabic, starting with the Arabic Naskh script. Basic writing tasks and reading vocalized and unvocalized script, are performed. Writing skills are enhanced by learning vocabularies pertaining to the general and communication spheres of lexicon. Students are expected to dedicate at least one weekly hour of private study, during which they are assigned various language tasks, including consolidation of the newly learnt vocabularies. Study-unit Aims: This study-unit aims at the acquistion of the Arabic Naskh script, in both the vocalized and unvocalized versions. The learning of Arabic writing is effected through the acquisition of Arabic lexical items. Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Read and write the Arabic Naskh script; - Acquire the following linguistic competences: • Vocabulary: Names, Locations, Adjectives; • Phonetics: Pronunciation of the various sounds of Arabic; • Grammar: Pronouns, Possessive Pronouns; • Interrogative Elements: What? Who? Where? 2. Skills: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Memorize, recognize, write and read accurately the Naskh alphabet in both the vocalized and unvocalized versions; and - Fill in basic official forms.
