DESCRIPTION Students reading for the MA in Global Maritime Archaeology will participate in fieldwork with a minimum duration of 100 hours. Supervised fieldwork opportunities, in the form of underwater/coastal excavations, offshore surveys and conservation projects offered by the University of Malta and the partner institutions. Furthermore, individual proposals for the participation in supervised research/fieldwork projects may be considered and approved by the Board of Studies.

Study-unit Aims:

- to provide experience in the organisation of archaeological fieldwork;
- to provide the necessary skill-set for the interpretation of results within a real working environment;
- to consolidate knowledge and insights of data, skills, information and experiences developed through the taught study units.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding:
By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- plan and execute fieldwork, in a holistic and meticulous manner, under the guidance of senior academic and/or technical staff;
- manage and analyse data gathered in the course of fieldwork projects.

2. Skills:
By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- work efficiently as part of a team;
- work under pressure;
- understand and manage project budgets;
- plan daily schedules that form part of a broader timetable;
- classify, analyse and manage datasets;
- keep a detailed project journal.
