| DESCRIPTION | This study-unit seeks to enhance the student’s critical perception and analysis of works of art and Method in history of Art through lectures, seminars and student presentations. Art historians tend to see their role as differing from that of critics. Historians interpret the work and its context and see to understand its place in the culture that produced it. Critics, in addition to interpretation, evaluate works of art and seek to convince their audience of worth or lack of value. Classes in criticism will survey general art history. Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Engage with the methodological tools of Art Historical research; - Analyse, evaluate and discuss works of art and undertake specific research on them. 2. Skills: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Actively analyse works of art and Method in Art History; - Comprehend the scholarly approaches to connoisseurship and the critical evaluation of works of art.
