DESCRIPTION This study-unit attempts to give an account of the Romantic movement in British and European literature, focusing on notions and concepts which shaped the form and content of Romantic poetry.

The study-unit will study the ‘second generation’ English Romantic poets. It will also deal with Romantic Hellenism and the issue of literary influence.

The content covered includes:

Shelley: ‘Alastor’, ‘Adonais’, ‘Epipsychidion’, ‘The Triumph of Life’
Byron: ‘Childe Harold IV’, ‘Beppo’, ‘The Vision of Judgement’; ‘Don Juan’, I-IV
Keats: The Odes; ‘Lamia’, ‘The Eve of St Agnes’; ‘The Fall of Hyperion’
