DESCRIPTION This study-unit is a continuation of Modern Hebrew 1 (HBW2003), intended to build on the knowledge gained during the first semester. It will thus provide students with further knowledge of Hebrew vocabulary, grammar, conversation skills, reading and writing, as well as Israeli culture.

In this study-unit, students will be exposed to more advanced aspects of morphology, phonology, syntax and conversational skills. Moreover, students will have to focus on more advanced writing reading skills.

Study-unit Aims

The aims of this study-unit are to:

1) provide further knowledge of Modern Hebrew, building on HBW2003;
2) train students in more advanced reading and writing skills;
3) enhance further and linguistically complicated conversational skills.

Learning Outcomes

1. Knowledge & Understanding:
By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

1) have a better knowledge of Modern Hebrew;
2) acquire a vocabulary of a further 500 words;
3) read the newspaper which is tailor-made for the new immigrants to Israel;
4) gain a better understanding of Modern Hebrew grammar, writing, and communication skills;
5) understand, through their knowledge of Modern Hebrew, the lifestyle of the young Israeli generation and aspects of current affairs in Israel.

2. Skills:
By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

1) appreciate further a modern language other than their native one;
2) exploit more advanced communication skills necessary to dialogue with Israeli partners in various spheres of work;
3) learn how to listen and communicate even more attentively and effectively with other people.
