DESCRIPTION Graduates of International Relations are provided with the academic background that would serve them well in a number of careers in the diplomatic corp, civil service and governmental or non-governmental international institutions. With the increasing membership of regional and international organisations, such career prospects are wider within both the public and private sector. This course intends to provide students with an introduction to the practical skills that graduates must be equipped with in order to apply the academic training that they have received when employed within such fora.

Each lecture will focus on and provide an introduction to the necessary background, skills and practices, including: Structures and Organisational Practices in Public Administration, the Structure of Malta’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Navigating EU Membership through EU Affairs Directorates, Participating in EU Meetings, the drafting of policy and legislation, and protocol issues. The course will also provide structural and organisational introductions to the functioning of international organisations as well as insight into functioning non-governmental and civil organisations. Students will also receive training for practical skills that are essential within any working environment, including writing and presentation skills, and dealing with the press.
