| DESCRIPTION | El objetivo de esta asignatura es ofrecer una visión amplia de las causas, los mecanismos y las pautas habituales del cambio lingüístico para comprender las líneas fundamentales de la formación y evolución del léxico español así como de otros aspectos gramaticales. Se examinarán las etapas fundamentales de la formación y evolución de la lengua española: La Península Ibérica antes de la romanización. El sustrato lingüístico prerromano. La romanización de la Península Ibérica. El latín vulgar de Hispania. Huellas germánicas en la lengua española. La transformación del latín hispánico en la época visigoda y la reconstrucción del llamado «prerromance hispánico». La invasión árabe y su repercusión lingüística. El proceso histórico de la reconquista y la fragmentación dialectal peninsular. Los primeros textos romances. El castellano hasta mediados del siglo XIII. La época alfonsí y el siglo XIV. El español de los Siglos de Oro. La expansión de la lengua española. El siglo XVIII. La Real Academia Española. Tendencias evolutivas del español moderno. The aim of this study-unit is to provide a broad view of the causes, mechanisms and regular patterns of language change to understand the basic outline of the formation and evolution of the Spanish lexicon and other aspects of grammar. It will examine the basic stages of the formation and evolution of the Spanish language: The Iberian Peninsula before the Roman; The substrata of pre-Roman languages. The Romanization of the Iberian Peninsula. The Vulgar Latin of Hispania. The footprints of the Germanic language in Spanish. The transformation of Hispanic Latin in the Visigothic period and the reconstruction of the so-called "Hispanic prerromance". The Arab invasion and its impact linguistics. The historical process of conquest and the fragmentation of the peninsular dialect. The first written romances. Castilian until the mid-thirteenth century. The Alphonsine period and the fourteenth century. The Golden Age of the expansion of the Spanish language. The eighteenth century. The Royal Spanish Academy. Developmental tendencies of modern Spanish. Study-unit Aims: - Familiarizar a los estudiantes con las causas, los mecanismos y las pautas habituales del cambio lingüístico. - Exponer las líneas fundamentales de la formación y evolución del léxico español así como de otros aspectos gramaticales. - Presentar las etapas fundamentales de la formación y evolución de la lengua española. - Exponer las tendencias de cambio en el español moderno. - To familiarize students with the causes, mechanisms and regular patterns of language change. - Outline the basic features of the formation and evolution of Spanish vocabulary and other aspects of grammar. - Present the basic stages of the formation and evolution of the Spanish language. - Outline the changing trends in modern Spanish. Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - describir los mecanismos habituales del cambio lingüístico en lengua española a través de ejemplos de unidades léxicas; - enumerar y explicar las etapas fundamentales de la formación y evolución de la lengua española; - describir los factores que sirven de fundamento para la fragmentación del latín en las diferentes lenguas romances peninsulares hasta llegar a la consolidación del español de los Siglos de Oro y del español actual; - identificar las tendencias evolutivas del español actual. - Describe the mechanisms of language change in Spanish through lexical examples; - List and explain the basic stages of the formation and evolution of the Spanish language; - Describe the factors that underlie the fragmentation of Latin into the various Romance languages in the Iberian Peninsula up to the consolidation of Golden Age and current Spanish; - Identify the evolutionary trends in contemporary Spanish. 2. Skills: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - analizar la evolución de unidades léxicas específicas; - relacionar unidades léxicas del español actual con las unidades léxicas del latín o de otras lenguas prerronamanas de las que proceden; - comparar los diferentes estadios de evolución de la lengua española desde la fragmentación del latín vulgar hasta el castellano moderno pasando por los diversos estadios de formación del romance hispano. - Analyze the evolution of specific lexical items; - Linking the current Spanish lexical items with lexical items from the Latin or other pre-Roman languages of origin; - Compare the different stages of evolution of Spanish from the fragmentation of Vulgar Latin to modern Castilian through the various stages of the formation of Hispanic Romance.
