DESCRIPTION Survey of evolution of architecture, art and design from late 19th century till today. Investigation of the major movements in architecture, fine art and design, which also include industrial and product design, graphic design as mirror of social, cultural, and technological ideas within broadly defined cultural context. Particular attention is given to topics such as artist/architect/designer's role in production of visual environment, development of design in context of other kinds of visual media and many other influences and theories that continue to echo through contemporary practice.

Study Unit Aims:

The objectives of this study-unit are to:
- Introduce students to the major movements within art, architecture and design history;
- Place major works within their historical, social and political context;
- Provide contextual continuity between architectural, artistic and design works;
- Place students' own work into the appropriate cultural context.

Learning Outcomes:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:
1. Identify and understand the most important periods in architectural, art and design history of the last century;
2. Get to know and discuss major architectural, art and design exponents and movements of the last century;
3. Place their own work within a historical context.
