DESCRIPTION The study-unit will provide hands-on education in the traditional techniques of printmaking, and an overview of Block, Etching, Lithography and Silkscreen printing processes. It will also provide contextual and historical information about these printing methods and their relationship to printmaking in the digital era.

Study-Unit Aims:

The objectives of this study-unit are to:
- Introduce students to the fundamentals of printmaking using Block and Lino
- Establish links and continuity between traditional and digital artwork for printmaking
- Provide contextual and historical information about printmaking
- Get students to think of printing processes using multi passes and multiple colours

Learning Outcomes:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:
1. Have basic understanding of traditional printing processes;
2. Be able to conceive and execute a print from the initial drawing to the finished print;
3. Have basic knowledge on the history of printmaking;
4. Be able to transform a digital artwork into a handmade print.
