DESCRIPTION Each student will be expected to carry out research connected with the field selected for study-unit SPI5801, and produce a dissertation in accordance with University of Malta regulations.

Each dissertation must cover both plan/policy (making and implementation) dimension and substantive considerations concerning the selected field, and will focus on the analysis of specific issues or problems.

Study-unit Aims

This study-unit is intended to provide the students with a specialism. The MSP course is of the 'combined' type, which means that the students would be expected to go through a combination of:

1. interdisciplinary spatial planning (minimum 50%); and
2. specialist (minimum 25%), studies in order to qualify as a 'generalist-with-a-specialism'.

Learning Outcomes

1. Knowledge & Understanding:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to identify and analyze in depth issues and problems connected with the selected field which would need to be dealt with by spatial planners.

2. Skills:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to participate, initially as a junior member and after gaining experience as a professional planner in projects connected with the selected field.

Will vary from student to student depending on the theme of the dissertation, which must be selected from sub-fields pertaining to the Specialization selected in SPI5801.
