TITLE Entrepreneurship: Creation of Technological Start-ups

DESCRIPTION During the study-unit, the students will be introduced to:
a) the entrepreneurial mindset and the importance of building a team of founders;
b) how opportunities for technological innovation may be recognized and interpreted as potential novel start-ups;
c) the steps required for the preliminary evaluation of the business potential of a software start-up; and
d) how to prepare a business case supporting the initial funding of the novel enterprise.

This unit has a focus on applying the acquired knowledge on a practical case.

Study-unit Aims

The aims of the study-units are:

- to expose the students to the entrepreneurial mindset;
- to make the students aware of their potential capabilites in creating software start-ups;
- to help students recognizing opportunities in software innovation as potential seeds for software start-ups;
- to make the students aware of the requirements and risks involved in creating a new company.

Learning Outcomes

1. Knowledge & Understanding:
By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- recognize the entrepreneurial mindset and the role of the team of founders in new software start-up;
- recognize and propose software innovations as potential seeds for novel business ventures;
- perform the preliminary steps required for the evaluation of the business potential of a software start-up;
- prepare the business case to support the launch of a new company.

2. Skills:
By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- identify the preliminary steps required for evaluating the business potential of a software start-up;
- gather the information needed to make or reject the business case for the new company;
- prepare the business case to support the launch of a new software company.
