DESCRIPTION This Unit is intended to offer students the opportunity of working on a supervised research project and to integrate and/or develop any aspect/s of their previous learning experience. Students are particularly encouraged to work on a cross-disciplinary project, in line with the spirit of a liberal arts and sciences degree. The research project may take various forms, including a long essay (10,000-12,000 words), a fieldwork report, an audio and/or visual composition, a reflective study or any other assigned task as approved by the Board.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding:

By the end of the Unit the student will be able to:
- identify an area of research and set a research proposal;
- engage in the process of research through a review of relevant literature;
- apply appropriate research methods and methodologies;
- design and produce a research project.

2. Skills:

By the end of the Unit the student will be able to:
- carry out independent research;
- enhance his/her analytical, interpretative and critical skills;
- prepare a coherent and well-structured project on the chosen research topic;
- communicate effectively the outcomes of the research project.

Due to the nature of this Unit, the appropriate texts and style manuals and any other relevant literature will be identified under the direction of the supervisor.
