Prior to joining the University of Malta's Department of Computer Information Systems within the Faculty of ICT, Dr. Conrad Attard offered his expertise as an IT consultant to a range of SMEs.
Dr. Attard achieved his Ph.D. in Engineering from the Computer Science Department at Sheffield University in 2016, having previously completed both his MSc and BSc at the University of Malta. He presently serves as the Deputy Dean of the Faculty of ICT. His career began in 1999 at Malta International Airport, where he gained extensive experience in critical IT systems utilised by the airline sector.
Over a decade, he was instrumental in developing enterprise IT planning solutions for all airport staff and later played a key role in the introduction of an ERP system, enhancing management's ability to gather information across all departments and external partners at the airport. Dr. Attard then established an IT business, providing support to various SMEs and organisations with a focus on consulting for IT infrastructure and software requirements.
His research interests are centred on organisational use of mobile solutions, smart technology, just-in-time knowledge creation, and eHealth solutions in the workplace. Over the past five years, he has led several research projects, including the development of reporting tools aimed at assisting caregivers of dementia patients who wander. This research involved creating a tool that leverages existing smart mobile technologies to monitor the wandering patterns of patients, whilst also identifying potential risks to their safety.
Dr. Attard is the lead researcher for the Pervasive Electronic Monitoring (PEM) project in healthcare, currently underway at St Vincent de Paule Residence, a combined nursing home and hospital for the elderly. His work includes designing simulators using Human Activity Recognition (HAR) technology to address issues of incomplete data from wearable devices. The objective is to aid researchers and ICT professionals in the healthcare sector to enhance system designs and offer solutions to pressing challenges.
Additionally, Dr. Conrad Attard holds the position of Deputy Dean of the Faculty of ICT and is the Chair of the IEEE Computer Society Malta.
