Lauren Ellul holds a Bachelor of Accountancy Honours degree from the University of Malta, having graduated with a First Class (Honours) classification in 1998. She also holds an Executive Masters in Business Administration, accredited by the University of Edinburgh in association with École Nationale des Ponts et Chaussees (ENPC) School of International Management, Paris, and KPMG. She completed her Executive MBA in 2002 and placed first in the final year of the programme. During 2016, Lauren was awarded the degree of Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Birmingham. Her PhD thesis focused on the area of public sector performance.

Lauren is a Certified Public Accountant and holds a Practising Certificate in Auditing. She is also a Fellow Member of the Malta Institute of Accountants.

Lauren is the Head of Department of Accountancy in the Faculty of Economics, Management & Accountancy at the University of Malta. She contributes to the public interest as a member of the Board of Directors of the Central Bank of Malta, a member of the Accountancy Board and a member of the Board of Governors of the Lands Authority. Lauren has served as a member of the Board of Governors and has chaired the Audit Committee at the Malta Financial Services Authority.

Lauren has worked within the Advisory function of a Big-4 accounting firm for a number of years and held the position of Senior Manager within the Corporate Finance team. She has managed engagements providing assistance to clients, including many of the listed entities on the local stock exchange, with respect to valuations of businesses and equity holdings, raising debt and equity financing, accounting advice, business planning, financial reviews, valuations for financial reporting purposes and impairment reviews. Lauren has delivered training modules on accounting, valuation and other business related topics to clients and at public seminars.
