Dr. Ing. Marvin K. Bugeja received the B.Eng.(Hons.)(Melit.) with first-class honours (summa cum laude) and the Ph.D. degrees from the University of Malta in 2002 and 2011 respectively. His doctoral research, entitled "Computational Intelligence Methods for Dynamic Control of Mobile Robots", contributes to the fields of Intelligent Control and Mobile Robotics. It proposes novel control techniques for stochastic neuro-adaptive control of nonlinear multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) systems, and introduces the use of dual adaptive control for mobile robots.

Over the past two decades Dr Bugeja has worked in industry and academia. He is currently a Senior Lecturer with the Department of Systems and Control Engineering at the University of Malta, and an Invited Lecturer at the Institute of Solid Mechanics, Mechatronics and Biomechanics of Brno University of Technology in the Czech Republic. He has served as the Maltese representative on the General Assembly of the European Control Association (EUCA) between 2017 and 2023, a Member of Senate of the University of Malta between 2013 and 2019, and as Chair of the IEEE Malta Student Branch between 2006 and 2007.

His main research interests revolve around control engineering and robotics, with particular focus on adaptive, nonlinear, and intelligent control, as well as robot control and applications. He leads and collaborates on several funded research projects in these areas. Dr. Ing. Bugeja has published more than 42 articles in peer-reviewed books, journals, and international conference proceedings, and has received a best paper award in four different occasions.

He is an Associate Editor on the EUCA Conference Editorial Board, and regularly acts as a reviewer for various conferences and journals. In 2017 he served as lead Programme Chair of the 25th Mediterranean Conference on Control and Automation (MED 2017). He is a senior member of the IEEE, a member of the IET, the Malta Chamber of Engineers, a licenced Energy Performance Assessor, and holds the Maltese Warrant to practise the engineering profession.
