Following his Master's degree in Pastoral Theology (1979), Paul Galea continued his studies at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome, Italy, from where he obtained the Bachelor's degree in Psychology (1981) and a Licentiate in Psychology (1982) with a thesis: “Treating Husband and Wife: Analysis of Contemporary Approaches in Marital Therapy.” In 1992 he started a Ph.D. degree in Pastoral Counseling at Loyola College in Baltimore, Maryland, USA. This was accompanied by a two year internship at the Towson State University Counseling Center in Baltimore, Maryland and one year as trainee at the Sexual Behavior Consultation Unit in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore, Maryland. USA. In 1996 he graduated with a dissertation: Development and Validation of the Commitment to Partnership Scale: Applying Psychological Constructs to Pastoral Issues in Marriage”. Since 1996 he has been Senior Lecturer in Pastoral Counseling, in the Faculty of Theology, University of Malta and a Lecturer in Psychology in the Department of Psychology. He has been Head of Department of Pastoral Theology since 2000, and Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Theology. Member of the University Senate 2001-2011.
