DESCRIPTION This unit aims to help participants further their basic practical skills used in textiles. The students are introduced to the recycling of textiles by applying various techniques that they acquired in the study unit titled Principles and Applications of Construction Techniques used in Textiles. The course shall take a hands-on approach whereby participants are taught to use their creativity when constructing simple projects by making use of recycled fabric/textiles and applying some basic sewing techniques.

Learning Outcomes:

- Understand the concept behind the recycling of fabric or textiles;
- Create a simple design using recycled fabric;
- Create pattern, texture and structure by applying creative techniques to the design;
- Improve upon the design to enhance its appearance;
- Apply basic sewing and creative techniques to a simple project.

Assessment:

In keeping with the spirit of Degree Plus, there is no formal assessment associated with the unit. A certificate of attendance and of satisfactory completion of the unit will be provided at the end of the semester.

Note: Degree plus units are not designed to be incrementally burdensome in terms of the many academic demands placed on students during their undergraduate years.

Unit Material:

Appropriate unit material will be provided by the tutors during the sessions. There are no set texts for the unit, though tutors may recommend appropriate manuals to students who would like to take their work in this area further.
