DESCRIPTION This course enables students to come to terms with the importance of lighting and modelling in the photographic studio to create pictures which are well balanced in tonal range and compositional arrangement.

A combined use of continuous and flash lighting will be used with the addition of light modifiers to control the intensity and quality of illumination. The traditional three-light setup will be discussed and then move on to illustrate a number of different lighting techniques.

Students are required to have a Degree Plus certificate in basic photography, or equivalent and be in possession of a DSLR camera and tripod.

Learning Objectives:

To gain awareness and understanding of the use of lighting and modelling in the studio.

Unit Material:

Appropriate unit material will be provided by the tutor during the sessions.

Assessment:

In keeping with the spirit of Degree Plus, there is no formal assessment associated with this unit. However, the certificate awarded to students at the end of the course will be based on full attendance to all the sessions and a portfolio based on the photography produced during these sessions.
