DESCRIPTION The study-unit explores:

• The concept of innovation;
• What constitutes innovation;
• How innovation is generated and ideas developed;
• How designs are translated into products.

Some issues that will be discussed include:

- What motivates an individual to create?
- What leads to success or failure of a new design?
- The effects of markets and other factors in shaping the design and innovation process?
- The discovery, identification and engagement of targets of opportunity.
- Crowd-sourcing innovation.

By the end of the study-unit students will be able to identify and evaluate innovation and engage in innovation.
