DESCRIPTION Target students:

Students who already have some knowledge of piano or keyboard instrument playing.

Pre-requisites:

Ability to play one of the musical instruments falling under this category.

Note:

Following registration students will be asked to attend an informal audition.

Description:

This study-unit is intended for students who already have knowledge of the keyboard, notation, chord progressions, transposition, improvisation, and simple accompanying techniques for the non-music major. The study-unit content may vary according to the level of proficiency of the student concerned which will be assessed during the informal audition. This study-unit will be based on individual tuition and promising players will be invited to accompany other musicians and participate in ensembles or an orchestra formation.

Learning outcomes:

By participating in this study-unit, students will:
1. improve their music playing abilities;
2. learn about keyboard instruments other than their own;
3. have the opportunity to play in small formations.

Assessment:

In keeping with the spirit of the Degree Plus, there is no formal assessment associated with the unit. A certificate of attendance and of satisfactory completion of the unit will be provided at the end of the semester.
