Target students:

Open to all students.

Aikido practice is enjoyable and can be practiced by anyone in particular by women, as no extraordinary physical strength is required. Qualified coaches will provide practice sessions to improve each student's abilities. Students registering for the 'Aikido' unit will be required to complete twenty hours of Aikido practice. Aikido techniques are based on the principle of non resistance were aggression is not needed. Its powerful techniques are based on blending with an attacker’s energy and redirecting the force of the attack rather than opposing it head-on. This unit is offered in both Semesters 1 and 2 and the Summer.

Learning outcomes:

By participating in this programme you will:

1. improve your people, team work and social skills
2. become familiar with the sport of aikido
3. perform various fitness, breathing and coordinative exercises and be introduced to various techniques to protect themselves from common attacks

The fee charged by the University to the student upon registration only covers the accreditation process by Degree Plus.
