DESCRIPTION | Entrepreneurship involves the creation of value through the identification and exploitation of opportunities and is widely considered to be the engine of economic growth. An entrepreneurial mind set is nowadays regarded as essential for SMEs and large organisations alike. This highly interactive programme is designed to inspire students to pursue their entrepreneurial aspirations and to develop the mind set necessary to meet the increasingly challenging demands of organisational life. This involves the ability to think creatively and to take risks in the pursuit of innovation. This programme comprises several interactive sessions, with the participation of various guest speakers from a wide variety of entrepreneurial backgrounds. Students who participate in this programme will greatly enhance their future career prospects, regardless of whether they aspire to start up their own business or if they wish to build a rewarding career within a successful organisation. Learning Objectives: • To encourage students to consider entrepreneurship as a viable career option; • To provide basic skills related to entrepreneurship, including opportunity identification, opportunity evaluation and business planning; • To foster an entrepreneurial mindset. Unit Material: Appropriate unit material will be provided by the tutors via the VLE. Assessment: In keeping with the spirit of Degree Plus, there is no formal assessment associated with this unit. However attendance and active participation in the sessions are compulsory. |
