DESCRIPTION Course in Spanish Language Level 2.

This unit builds on Spanish Language 1, but can also be taken by students who already have a prior knowledge of Spanish. Through this unit students will be able to function socially simply but effectively, using simple expressions in common use and following basic formulas. Among other things, students will learn how to make and respond to greetings, invitations and suggestions, to ask for and accept apologies, to give advice and instructions, etc.

Unit Aims:

The aim of this unit is to enable the student to reach the A1 or 'Beginner' level of competence in Spanish language on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) as set out at

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding:

By the end of the unit the student will be able to ask and answer questions about personal details such as where he/she lives, people he/she knows and things he/she has and interact in a simple way provided the other person talks slowly and clearly and is prepared to help.

2. Skills:

By the end of the unit the student will be able to provide instructions to go somewhere; describe places like homes, neighbourhoods and cities; navigate the urban transport system; talk about habits and frequency; describe the weather; talk about hobbies and daily routine; express needs; express agreement and disagreement; ask for and offer help; propose activities; issue invitations and react to them, and talk on the phone and make appointments; interact in a clothing store.

Assessment:

In keeping with the spirit of Degree Plus, there is no formal assessment associated with the unit. A certificate of attendance and of satisfactory completion of the unit will be provided at the end of the semester.

Note: Degree plus units are not designed to be incrementally burdensome in terms of the many academic demands placed on students during their undergraduate years.
