DESCRIPTION This unit is first and foremost aimed at students with an interest in Art. This study-unit is practical, where students work in various materials such as pencil, charcoal and acrylics. Most of the sessions are hands on, and are always preceded with a presentation, and notes are given throughout the course.

Throughout the study-unit, the students will follow exercises in line drawing, on site drawing, landscape painting, still life and personal interpretation of a subject of their own choice. This build up helps students to move from an objective to the personal interpretation, learning the process of amalgamating concept and form.

The unit is mostly aimed at beginners with limited or no background in Art, however students from any level can join the course since it is practise based. During the practical part of the session, individual guidance would be given, maximizing the individual potential of each student.

Learning Objectives:

• To provide an introduction to drawing and painting techniques absolute beginners;
• To solidify techniques for students with a basic knowledge in Art;
• To contextualize art practises within on an individual and social level;
• To give an overview of modern and contemporary Art.

Unit Material:

Notes would be provided by the tutors during the sessions. The students need to get art supplies such as pencils, charcoal, acrylic paints and a drawing book.

Assessment:

In keeping with the spirit of Degree Plus, there is no formal assessment associated with the unit. A certificate of attendance and of satisfactory completion of the unit will be provided at the end of the semester.
