Research Ethics

 Researchers and their supervisors are encouraged to visit the UREC website and the read the information provided thoroughly before submitting any application-full details

Sample information/consent document templates for the guidance of UM researchers and supervisor are available here. Any documents that may be returned by FREC to the researcher for revision by the researcher, must be accompanied by a "Changes to documents" file on resubmission, listing the position of all changes to the document, the change requested and the change made. A specimen form is attached. The changes must also be highlighted in yellow in the revised document. Failure to comply with these instructions may seriously delay the process.

FREC Forms

  • Changes to document
  • With reference to question 17 in the New REDP Form - General Considerations Section question 17, a prospective researcher requires F/REC approval prior to approaching an institution with questionnaires, health information etc.

    Prospective researchers are to clearly enlist and provide the number of each cooperating institution that will be contacted including:

    (i) institutions required for access to participants (e.g., nursing officers, heads of school, NGO organizations etc.);

    (ii) institutional gatekeepers directly responsible for participants (e.g., heads of school, NGO executives, etc.).

    Kindly note that Dental Surgery FREC in the section above requires applicants to send letters requesting permission in the section below before they are sent to the intermediaries.

    FREC will review such letters along with the online REDP form and any other documentation. Please mark the section above as "Yes/Unsure" if you require permissions.

    It is also highly recommended that researchers submit their online FREC applications as early as possible in order to avoid undue pressure and undue delays.
