DESCRIPTION This study-unit reviews the current state of the European Union’s policy on communications and e-business and its translation into legal regulation. It examines the principal policy documents and legislation emanating from the European Union in the field of communications and e-business.

It examines the regulation of the converging ICT sectors, and the various legal aspects of e-business. The study-unit also makes reference to Maltese legislation on the various areas considered, offering them as a case study against which to consider the application of the principles set out in EU legislation and policy.

Learning Outcomes:

This unit provides the student with an overall knowledge of the laws and policies regulating communications and e-business. It brings together legislative regulation and policy issues. It examines critically both the policies relating to this sector and the transposition of EU law into Maltese law where applicable. Students will get a holistic grounding in, and understanding of, communications and e-business law and policy allowing them to inter-relate policies to legislation and EU law and policy to policy and legislation prevalent in Malta.
