DESCRIPTION This study-unit is intended to famaliarize the student with the Environmental Policies of the European Union, including the international and regional conventions adhered to by the European Union. It is intended to cover the following topics:-

1. The European Union’s Programme of Action on the Environment.

2. The basic sectors of European Union Environmental Legislation, namely:-

&nbsp &nbsp b. Air
&nbsp &nbsp c. Wastes
&nbsp &nbsp d. Chemicals
&nbsp &nbsp e. Noise
&nbsp &nbsp f. Flora
&nbsp &nbsp g. Fauna
&nbsp &nbsp h. Pollution
&nbsp &nbsp i. Nuclear Safety

3. Specific aspects of European Union Environmental Law:-
&nbsp &nbsp a. Prevention action
&nbsp &nbsp b. Economic aspect of pollution control
&nbsp &nbsp c. Research
&nbsp &nbsp d. Environmental Impact Assessment

4. Protection of the Cultural Heritage.

5. Freedom of Access to Information on the Environment.

ADDITIONAL NOTES Students are required to register for Level 1 Units if they are in Year 1, for Level 2 Units if they are in Year 2, and for Level 3 Units if they are in Year 3 or 4 of their Course.
