The Department of Arts and Languages in Education offers a number of courses related to Initial Teacher Education programmes. The areas in which courses are held are directly related to subjects taught at Secondary and Post-Secondary levels in the Maltese Educational System. These include:

Languages - Maltese, English, Italian, French, German, Spanish

Social Sciences - History, Social Studies and Religion

Aesthetic Subjects - Fine Arts, Music

Courses are normally offered as part of the Bachelor in Education (Honours) programme and of the Post-graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE).  The department collaborates closely with various other departments within the Faculty of Education and, in specific areas, with the Faculties of Arts and of Theology.

Courses are also offered occasionally at Masters level. These lead to a degree of Master in Education after completion of a course which normally has a three-year duration (part-time).  Such courses have recently been offered in Applied Language Studies (for students who specialise in second and foreign language teaching) and in the areas of History Education and Fine Arts.
