Q1: I intend to apply for the B.Ed (Hons.) course this October (2010). What are the entry requirements for the course?
A1: Besides the University General Entry Requirements and Special Course Requirements pertaining to their chosen area of specialisation, which requirements are specified in the B.Ed (Hons.) Bye-laws, ALL applicants wishing to join the B.Ed (Hons.) course commencing in October 2010 need to be in possession of the following qualifications, prior to commencement of the course:
For B.Ed (Hons.) Primary Education and Early Childhood Education:
- passes in proficiency tests in English AND Maltese approved by the Faculty
- European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL)
For B.Ed (Hons.) Secondary Education:
- a pass in proficiency test in English approved by the Faculty
- European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL)
APPLICANTS SHALL BE EXEMPTED FROM SITTING FOR THE PROFICIENCY TESTS IF THEY ARE IN POSSESSION OF A SEC PASS AT GRADE 3 OR HIGHER, GCE PASS AT GRADE B OR HIGHER; OR AN INTERMEDIATE MATRICULATION LEVEL PASS AT GRADE C OR HIGHER OR AN ADVANCED MATRICULATION LEVEL PASS AT GRADE C OR HIGHER IN ENGLISH AND/OR MALTESE.
IN THE CASE OF ENGLISH, PASSES AT THE SAME STANDARD IN COMPARABLE QUALIFICATIONS WILL ALSO BE ACCEPTED.
Applicants not in possession of the above-listed qualifications by 1st October 2010, will not be eligible for admission to the course.

Q2: I intend to apply for the B.Ed (Hons.) course this October (2010). I have already passed both English and Maltese Proficiency Tests set by the University of Malta. Are these passes still valid for entry in October 2010, or do I have to sit for them again?
A2: If you have obtained a pass the tests in previous years you do not have to sit for them again as these will still be valid for Intake October 2010.
Q3: I am a mature student. Do I still need to pass the proficiency tests in English and Maltese and ECDL for the B.Ed. (Hons) course?
A3: Yes, mature students should also be in possession of the requirements specified in answer 1 (above).

A4: Please refer to the Bye-Laws of the Faculty of Education where you will find the specific entry requirements for the course you wish to pursue.
Q5: I am a prospective applicant for the B.Ed(Hons.)/PGCE course for Intake October 2010. If I will not have the ECDL by 1st October 2010 will I be allowed to join the B.Ed (Hons.)/PGCE course?
A5: No, you will not be allowed to join the B.Ed (Hons.)/PGCE course if you do not obtain a pass in the ECDL by 1st October 2010.
