TITLE Basic First Aid Course for Science Teachers

 
LEVEL 02 - Years 2, 3 in Modular Undergraduate Course

DESCRIPTION Students following the study-unit will be able to:
- Assess the situation and plan the best course of action to deal with the casualty,
- Prevent further injury,
- Treat the injured person using appropriate first-aid procedures,
- Care for the injured person until the formal transfer of that person to other care or his/her return to normal activities (depending on the seriousness of the injury), and
- Report the accident.

Besides focusing on casualty management and initial assessment of accident situation, the study-unit will mainly be concerned with the treatment of (e.g. respiratory failure and cardiac arrest; bleeding; poisoning, burns and scalds, epileptic fits and anaphylactic shock, hypoglycaemia, bone fractures and muscle injuries). The programme will involve hands-on practical sessions during which the students will learn first aid skills through first hand experiences. Students who complete the study-unit successfully will be awarded a First Aid certificate.
