DESCRIPTION This study-unit introduces the students to the field of:

- Sports, leisure and recreation management, the principles and approaches to management, leadership, communication, decision-making, team-building, motivation, risk management, public relations and marketing;
- The roles of the members of the executive committee within a sport organisation;
- Running a Physical Education department in a secondary school and organising major events, both within the school and the community setting;
- Facility management;
- Child protection in Sport;
- Ethics and Good Practice in Physical Education and Sport.

Learning Outcomes:

At the end of the study-unit students will be able:

- To understand the importance of managing people’s leisure and recreation and who are the main providers of these services;
- To describe the roles of international and local major sports bodies including the IOC, MOC, and KMS (Malta Sports Council);
- To demonstrate leadership and management skills in given tasks and to plan, organise and control a major event in the community or school setting, including tournaments, athletic meetings, fun runs and fund-raising activities;
- To run a physical education department;
- To organise sports events at school and community level;
- To promote good practice in sport;
- To recognise poor practice, abuse and bullying in sport;
- To respond to disclosure, suspicions and allegations of abuse in sport.
