DESCRIPTION This study-unit builds on PRE 3007 to give student in their last year of study time to practice formal planning in the Early Years of compulsory schooling. A team of specialist tutors will present the templates for their respective subject schemes of work and lesson plans. Guided practice will ensue in the main areas of the curriculum, namely English, Maltese, Mathematics, Social Studies, Religion, and Science.

Study-unit Aims:

This study-unit aims to give student teachers a sound grounding in the organization of the content of the compulsory curriculum. Student teachers will be exposed to formal planning introduced in PRE3007 for the specific content areas of the Early Years Curriculum. The course aims to help student teachers apply universal design for learning principles to the content areas of the Early Years curriculum.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding:
By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- Comprehend the nature of planning for instruction in the specific content areas of the early years compulsory curriculum;
- Comprehend the importance of planning for the whole class;
- Demonstrate knowledge of the importance of individualising planning in the specific content areas of the early years curriculum to the specific needs of learners.

2. Skills:
By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- Design short term and long term planning for the specific content areas of the Early Years compulsory curriculum;
- Write clear cognitive, affective and psychomotor objectives pertinent to the specific content areas to supplement the learning process;
- Develop differentiated lesson plans in the specific content areas which attain the learning objectives;
- Plan lesson plans which articulate the process and set appropriate assessment indicators;
- Organize course material in the specific content areas in an orderly and interesting manner;
- Adjust the content and the process according to the needs of the class and individual students.
