The Department of Mechanical Engineering is committed to:
- Research: carry out research in a number of Mechanical Engineering fields, through a series of projects ranging from industrial collaborations to national and EU frameworks, postgraduate/undergraduate course related projects etc.
- Courses: run the B.Eng.(Hons.) in Mechanical Engineering, M.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering (scheduled to commence in October 2011), M.Sc. by Research, M.Phil. and Ph.D. for Research in Mechanical Engineering.
- Student Activities: support any ancillary student activity such as the Formula SAE and Final Year Projects.
The above provide the means to constantly enhance the Department's research profile and student preparation level, which find a vast range of applications including:
- Design, development, manufacture and maintenance of mechanical engineering plants and components in the energy, renewable energy, naval and marine, building services, automotive and aerospace sectors.
- Technical management and consultancy in engineering related fields.
- Other related industrial engineering roles both locally and internationally.
