Research in this area concentrates on the investigation of computational intelligence techniques for modeling, estimation, system identification and control of complex systems. Particular emphasis is placed on neural network-based adaptive control designs for handling systems characterized by uncertain dynamics, non-linearity, multi-modality, fault conditions and stochastic effects.

In addition to developing theoretical results and novel control algorithms, work is in progress to identify problems and explore solutions aimed towards bridging the theory-practice gap believed to be prevalent in this area. The developed algorithms are implemented and tested in real-time on physical, laboratory-scale pilot plant in order to highlight such issues and facilitate the transition of these results from research to industrial applications.
