UM LEVEL 05 - Postgraduate Modular Diploma or Degree Course

ECTS CREDITS 30

DEPARTMENT Faculty of Engineering

DESCRIPTION The project is an open ended problem to be addressed within the various themes related to Building Services Engineering. The problem is resolved by applying appropriate engineering practices to address the aims, objectives and project definition, giving detailed outcomes, discussions and conclusion in a logically written dissertation.

Study-unit Aims:

The project's aim is to permit the student to address and conduct an independent engineering investigation in a particular area of study from the taught course under supervision. The progress will be regularly monitored by the supervisor/s. The study is to be undertaken in a systematic manner using methodologies from Engineering. Starting with the objectives that define the project, reviewing and investigating work within the area of interest and to critically evaluate theoretical perspectives and develop an in-depth understanding of the particular area of interest. The type of work produced, design, experiments, simulation, analysis, discussion and concluding remarks will depend on the project specification. A report is required to write the project findings in the form of a dissertation that shall in in accordance with the guidelines issued by the Faculty.

Learning Outcomes:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:
- identify and define the building services engineering problem to be investigated;
- develop the skills required to solve the specific undertaken task;
- acquire a superior and advanced knowledge of the subject considered and provide detailed interpretations and reasonings on the specific problem area of the project.

2. Skills:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:
- evaluate, report and discuss the project in a clear, planned and concise form;
