The Department of Accountancy Since its establishment, the Department has become responsible for the academic and professional education of the vast majority of Maltese warranted accountants, with over 1250 having graduated by November, 2008. It has also introduced and promoted academic research in the discipline of accountancy with particular focus on its relevance in a small, forward-looking European island-state.
Full-time members of staff are seven, two senior lecturers, one lecturer and four assistant lecturers. These are complemented by seven permanent part-time lecturers and also by a number of other visiting/casual lecturers both from the profession and industry. Besides undertaking lecturing and research duties, members maintain strong links with the accountancy profession by participation in relevant boards and committees.

Dr Andrew W. Higson from the University of Loughborough Business School, UK.
Staff Research Interests and Other Highlights The expertise and research interests of staff members are wide-ranging, covering areas from financial reporting and to international accounting, auditing, management accounting and financial strategy, and place particular focus to the application of these areas in a fast-developing modern European microstate.
Staff members also play a leading parting the Maltese accountancy profession and have not only chaired or served in boards and committees but also acted as consultants in various prominent organisations.
