| Born in Sliema on the 13 February 1967, Ivan Grixti was educated at St Joseph Convent in Sliema and St Aloysius College, B’Kara. Having obtained his A-levels he enrolled on the B.A.(Hons) Accountancy course at the University of Malta in 1986. He graduated with 2nd Class (lower) in 1991 whilst already engaged on a full-time basis with the commercial arm of the University. In 1993, he commenced reading for his M.A. degree in Accounting & Finance at the University of Lancaster. Having joined the University of Malta as full-time member of the academic staff he immediately thought of gaining his Ph.D. which is currently underway at the University of Southampton. Given that his main academic area is financial accounting, the chosen area of research is fair value measurement. More recently he has been accepted as a fellow of the AIA – Academic branch. He has contributed on various occasions to the official journal of the Malta Institute of Accountants and has conducted various seminars as part of the CPE programme. On a professional level he was awarded the warrant of a CPA in 1992 and eventually, became a fellow of the MIA in 1998. In 2002 he was accepted as a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. He is also heavily involved in the local religious and civic life. In April 2008 he was appointed President of the King’s Own Band Club which was established in 1874. He is also the treasurer of the Arch-confraternity of the Blessed Crucifix in Valletta, which is responsible for the organisation of the Good Friday procession. More recently he has been appointed as a member of the audit committee of the archdiocese of Malta by H.G. Mons Paul Cremona O.P.
