Mr Ian Cassar is an assistant lecturer in Macroeconomics. His main teaching areas are Introductory Macroeconomics, Intermediate Macroeconomics and Applied Macroeconomics. His research interests include Input-Output Analysis, National Accounting and Social Accounting Matrices, Computable General Equilibrium Modelling and Energy Economics.
Mr Cassar graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce (Hons) in Economics from the University of Malta in 2006. Subsequently in 2007 he obtained a Master of Science degree in Economics from the University of Edinburgh. He is currently in the final stages of completing a Ph.D. in Economics from Heriot-Watt University (Edinburgh). His research has been focused on various aspects relating to the application of Input-Output based models to the Maltese Economy. It extends from the actual construction of a Symmetric Input-Output Table and a Social Accounting Matrix for the Maltese Economy to the study of numerous Input-Output techniques which can be applied for use in economic analysis.
Between 2007 and 2011 Mr Cassar also worked as a research assistant at Heriot-Watt University. He was part of a team of economists who worked with BP plc to produce their “BP Statistical Review of World Energy”, one of the most widely respected and authoritative publications in the field of energy economics.
