Accountancy

The Bachelor of Commerce in Accountancy will immerse you in the world of finance and accounting. This undergraduate course will provide you with the essential concepts such as financial reporting, taxation, auditing, and management accounting. By gaining a deep understanding of economic principles and honing your capacity to analyse financial data, you will be able to carry out informed business decisions in your prospective accountancy career. The variety of taught units will culminate together in order to develop your proficiency in utilising the appropriate accountancy methodology, ensuring that you will be well-equipped to tackle modern industrial demands. By the end of the course, you will have cultivated critical thinking, communication, and problem-solving skills, empowering you to excel as an adept accounting professional.


Marketing

The Bachelor of Commerce in Marketing interprets and explains the dynamic world of consumer behaviour and brand strategy. Throughout the course, you will comprehend the psychology of buyers, market research techniques, and innovative communication strategies. The variety of taught study-units will explore different but intertwining facets, such as product development, digital marketing, and advertising in a rapidly evolving business landscape. By the end of the course, you will have sharpened your creative thinking and problem-solving skills.


Communication and Academic Skills Programme

The communication and academic skills programme complements students’ main course of study. It introduces them to writing and presenting as situated within academic contexts sensitive to specific disciplines and develops their competences for future careers.

This programme of study is governed by the General Regulations for University Undergraduate Awards, 2019 and by the Bye-Laws for the award of the Bachelor of Commerce - B.Com. - and Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) - B.Com. (Hons) - under the auspices of the Faculty of Economics, Management and Accountancy.

Accountancy

Upon successfully completing the Bachelor of Commerce degree course, you will be able to:

  • Comprehend and describe how markets work across various typologies of market structures, as well as be in a position to assess how changes to the cost of production change with output.
  • Prepare financial reports, including statements of cash flows, of an entity from given case study data.
  • Identify different sources of Commercial Law.
  • Provide the necessary assistance and support to legal professionals in tackling legal issues that may arise in the operation and management of a business.
  • Think of the Conceptual Framework in establishing what the principle behind each accounting standard is, rather than just grasping what is required from the standard is.
  • Analyse the performance of an organisation using advanced variance analysis.

Marketing

Upon successfully completing the Bachelor of Commerce degree course, you will:

  • Outline stages in the development of complex organisations and corresponding stages in the development of organisational psychology.
  • Navigate through the complexities of the research industry, design marketing, research processes, source data from secondary sources, develop primary data collection tools, manage sample design and produce research reports.
  • Recognise the importance of the Customer Journey as a business tool.
  • Describe the internal and external environments affecting digital marketing and analyse implications for the marketing mix.
  • Evaluate the complexities of the interaction and network approach to business markets.
  • Illustrate the links between marketing strategy and other elements of the organisation, such as organisational structure, culture, and core competencies.

Accountancy

As a graduate holding the Bachelor of Commerce in Accountancy, you will be able to enter a career as a financial analyst, auditor, tax consultant, management accountant, or as a corporate accountant. You may also choose to enrol in a postgraduate programme to refine your research and expand your academic career possibilities.


Marketing

As a successful graduate, you will have an amplitude of roles to choose from. Such roles feature marketing management, digital strategy, and brand consultancy. The course also provides a strong foundation to enter an MBA with a marketing focus, and the possibility to enrol in alternative postgraduate courses that pave the way for academic careers or specialised marketing positions.
