TITLE Fixed Income Analysis

LEVEL 03 - Years 2, 3, 4 in Modular Undergraduate Course


DEPARTMENT Banking and Finance

DESCRIPTION This study-unit provides students with an introduction to the theory, tools, and terminology of fixed income markets from a finance point of view together with their application. In order to maximise knowledge and skills transfers’, the material covered in this study-unit focuses on principles of investments and valuation of bonds.

Study-unit Aims

This study-unit aims at providing students with an in depth understanding of the fixed income world in terms of the different vehicles, their valuation and application.

Learning Outcomes

1. Knowledge & Understanding:
By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- describe the features of the main fixed income instruments;
- know how to value fixed income securities;
- explain the different investment risks associated with fixed income securities;
- show the application of the various vehicles falling in this asset class.

2. Skills:
By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- perform security analysis;
- build portfolios;
- evaluate investment performance;
- use asset-pricing models.
