DESCRIPTION The study-unit first will introduce students to the concepts of Shariah Law and the way contracts are designed. This includes the interaction with contracts of the land. On the second instance the unit will give an overview of the capital markets and insurance whilst on the third side it will go into detail on the banking modes and different banking instruments that Islamic Banks use and how these may work with conventional banks, if possible. An overview of the accounting in such banks will also be provided.

Study-unit Aims:

The study-unit aims to:
- Introduce students to Shariah Law
- Give an Overview of Islamic Finance Pillars
- Give detailed knowledge of the way Islamic Banking works
- Analyse Interaction with Maltese Law
- Discuss Cooperation with Conventional banks
- Give Overview Accounting and Reserves

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:
- Analyse an Islamic Banking Transaction;
- Assess whether it is Sharia Compliant;
- Appreciate how Shariah Banking works;
- Identify differences between Shariah and Conventional Banking trying to find a solution to use existing legislation for conventional and islamic finance cotransactions.

2. Skills:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:
- Appreciate better Islamic Culture and hence be able to do business with them
- Use some arabic terminology used in Islamic Banking
- Analyse an Islamic Finance transaction and assess whether it is possible or not
