DESCRIPTION The objective of the study-unit is to develop the ability of students to apply macroeconomic theory and principles to actual real world examples. Over the course of the study-unit students will be presented with advanced macroeconomic theory in order to provide the necessary background to better comprehend the applied economic research which will be discussed throughout the study-unit. The application of theoretical macroeconomic models and relevant analysis of the underlying macroeconomic issues is thus presented and discussed for the following list of topics:

- The IS-LM Model;
- The Labour Market;
- Supply Side Policies;
- Inflation and Unemployment;
- Disinflation;
- Theories of Consumption Behavior;
- Theories of Investment Behavior;
- Exogenous Growth Theory.

Study-unit Aims:

- To encourage students to apply theoretical macroeconomic concepts to real world cases;
- To help students in understanding the usefulness of theoretical models in the analysis of macroeconomics;
- To introduce the students to a vast array of published journal articles papers.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding:
By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- Appreciate the role of theory in analyzing real world macroeconomic issues;
- Recognise divergencies between the real world and theoretical models;
- They will learn to present and summarize applied macroeconomic research.

2. Skills:
By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- Better evaluate current macroeconomic issues in line with theory and macroeconomic models;
- Analyze policy options adopted within different economies;
- To make better use of journal articles within their studies and research.

The students will also be provided with supplementary applied academic journal articles.
