DESCRIPTION | This study-unit will refer to management and organisational theories and describe the main influences on management behaviour within organisations, with special reference to the unique nature of public service. The content of the study-unit will describe the nature of organisational structures in relation to the public service. In the context of the leadership process, the range of leadership styles, motivation theories and the quality of service, aspect to ensure a service of excellence are highlighted. Students will also appreciate the impact of groups and team-learning on organisational performance. Study-Unit Aims: The aim of this study-unit is to provide students reading for the BA (Hons) Public Sector Accounting with knowledge and application of Management and Organisational Theory and leadership processes, with particular reference to the Public Sector. Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Describe the development of leadership processes, management and organisational theory; - Analyse the nature of human behaviour and the motivation of individuals and groups within organisations; - Explain and identify the leadership style that best fits the work scenarios. 2. Skills: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Apply leadership styles and management in the context of the public service; - Evaluate and identify best ways to manage and motivate a team, problem solving and decision making; - Apply Quality of Service principles applied in the current public service scenario.
