DESCRIPTION Rationale & Learning Objectives

To give students an understanding of the legal issues involved in managing organisations as well to make them aware of the legal obligations and challenges which they are likely to face in their professional careers and to provide them with the necessary tools to confront these challenges.

Indicative Syllabus & Course Outline

Students will acquire knowledge of the law relating to general commercial practice as well as the law relating to the various aspects of company law and industrial legislation. They will appreciate the reason why law is so important and how it impinges on their professional careers as well as learning of their responsibilities at law as managers. Emphasis will be made on the various situations which require a knowledge of the law in order that they be confronted correctly. Three main areas are covered in detail in this module: (a) General legal issues related to commerce and how this effects the manager (b) Legal Issues relating to company law and how managers should deal with these issues in a correct legal manner and (c) Industrial Law and the obligations which the law imposes on managers in this sphere, all within the wider context of linking the material to possible practical situations potentially faced by managers
