DESCRIPTION Rationale & Learning Objectives

The objective of this study-unit is to familiarise prospective accountants with European Union issues in particular those of relevance to Accountants.

Indicative Syllabus & Study-unit Outline

The study-unit gives an outline of the historical evolution of the European Union and deals with the Institutions of the Union, and with the salient aspects of the “acquis communautaire”. The study-unit also provides an outline of various policy areas of the Union. The topics will include the Commission and the Council, European Parliament, EIB/Court of Auditors, European Court of Justice, Free Movement of Persons and the Right of Establishment, Decision Making Process, Common Fisheries Policy, The Common Agricultural Policy, Industrial and Enterprise Policy, Regional Policy, Schengen Area, Malta-EU Relations, Economic and Monetary Union, Financial Services, External Relations and Competition Policy.
