| DESCRIPTION | Course Objective: The objective of the course is to introduce the models of economic growth currently used in mainstream macroeconomic literature, ranging from the Harrod-Domar to the Solow model to endogenous growth theories. The course features a mix of theoretical exposition, including an introduction to the mathematics of dynamic optimisation, and practical applications. Indicative list of topics to be covered: - Stylised facts about economic growth - Models of exogenous growth - Models of endogenous growth - Growth accounting and Total Factor Productivity - Convergence and economic integration Suggested textbooks: - Barro R and X Sala-I-Martin, Economic Growth, McGraw Hill - Van den Berg H, Economic Growth and Development¸ Mc Graw Hill. |
